Surgery

Any way you'd like to say it, most of our patients are walking through the doors of our hospital for surgery. And there's no way around it, surgery isn't one of the most enjoyable things you will experience in your life. What we can do though, is to make your surgery an experience of ease and comfort. From the moment you arrive, our goal is to make you feel as if you're at a home away from home, even if you're only here for a short time.

Outpatient Surgery
Eighty-four percent of the surgeries that are performed at Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital are outpatient surgeries, meaning there is no overnight stay and you are on your way home a few hours after your surgery. Patients are taken from our pre-op area, where they are prepared for surgery, into the surgical room and then finally to our post-op area, where patients take time to recover and are given directions on proper care after they leave the hospital. Many surgeries today are considered to be outpatient surgeries. We feel that your recovery will be more enjoyable for you in the place you feel the most comfortable, your home.

Inpatient Surgery
For some surgeries, patients are required to stay overnight so our excellent staff of nurses can care for them in our inpatient rooms. Instead of going home after recovery from surgery, patients are taken to one of our patient suites, designed to make patients feel like they're just staying overnight at a hotel, instead of a cold hospital room. We provide patients with everything they will need to make their overnight stay peaceful. Learn more about our guest suites and accommodations in the Patient Information section.
